## Instructions

1. **Start the broth.** Heat 2 quarts of water to a rolling boil in a large pot. Add as much ham chunks as you like. Add celery salt to your taste. The water should be enough to cover the ham, potatoes, and dough.

2. **Make the dough.** Mix flour, shortening, baking powder, egg, ham broth (1/2 cup), and salt together in a bowl. Mix well until combined.

3. **Prepare dough squares.** Roll out the dough to biscuit thickness. Cut into squares and add to the rolling water.

4. **Add potatoes.** Peel potatoes and cut into quarters. Add to the rolling water.

5. **Cook through.** Keep the water rolling and stir occasionally so the dough and potatoes do not stick to the bottom of the pot. You may need to add more water as it cooks. Cook until the dough is cooked through and potatoes are pretty soft. The broth should thicken.

6. **Serve.** Ladle into bowls, making sure each serving has dough squares, potatoes, and ham chunks.

## Tips & Variations

- **Save ham broth:** If you're cooking a ham separately, save the cooking liquid to use in this recipe for extra flavor
- **Vegetable additions:** Feel free to add diced carrots, peas, or corn to the pot along with the potatoes
- **Thickness control:** The dough will release starch and thicken the broth naturally. If it gets too thick, add more water
- **Leftover friendly:** This is an excellent way to use up leftover holiday ham
